CSC Spoils BU's 'Pink Out' Match

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Culver-Stockton came into the Collins Center and spoiled the Baker University volleyball teams annual ‘Pink Out’ game with a shocking five set win, 25-21, 21-25, 10-25, 25-20,18-16.

 

The crowd and team were dressed in pink to celebrate awareness for breast cancer awareness and raise funds for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. 

Baker falls to 16-13 overall and 5-3 in the conference and stands alone in fourth-place in the Heart of America Athletic Conference standings, the Wildcats have now lost two straight HAAC matches.

With the victory, CSC improves to 16-16 overall and 4-4 in the conference and is tied for fifth-place with Avila.

Baker needs to defeat Benedictine College next Tuesday, Oct. 30 to solidify its fourth-place spot in the final regular season standings and host a first round match in the HAAC Playoffs next Saturday, Nov. 3.

The Wildcats hit .213 as a team and Jasmyn Turner led the squad in hitting percentage at .421 with eight kills and zero attack errors. 

Savannah Smith had some powerful kills on the night and led Baker with 17 and added nine digs.

Crystal Simon was the only other Wildcat in double figures in kills with 10 and freshman Danielle French added nine and a team high two solo blocks.

Senior Jana Boss tied French for that team lead in solo blocks and dished out 38 assists with eight digs.

Baker brought the crowd to its feet with a match point opportunity and the 14-13 lead, but CSC stormed back and found a way to win the fifth set 18-16 for a big victory. The CSC Vikings have now won four of its last five matches. 

Baker will return home this Saturday, Oct. 27 to take on Waldorf College in the Wildcats final non-conference match of the season and then takes on Benedictine College on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. for senior night.

Baker will honor seniors Jana Boss and Savannah Smith before the match against the Ravens.
