BU Falls to No. 6 MNU in Epic Five Sets

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – In front of its largest crowd of the season and its annual Pink Out game, the Baker University volleyball team pushed No. 6 MidAmerica Nazarene to the brink, but ultimately fell to the Pioneers in five sets, 25-22, 25-23, 21-25, 14-25, 15-17.

With the win MidAmerica Nazarene improved to 20-1 overall and 6-0 in the HAAC, while Baker ended its eight-match winning streak and fell to 19-7 overall and 5-1 in the HAAC.

This is the first time this season MNU had a match go five sets and only the second time in 2013 that Baker had a match go five.

MNU hit .387 as a team and had three players finish with double digit kills, as Vladi Kopanarova had 15, Zoraida Heredia had a match high 19 and Linjun Ji had 10.

For the Wildcats, Baker also had three players with 10 or more kills, as Danielle French had 12, as did Shannon McCarty and Crystal Simon finished with 11.

Baker hit .153 as a team and collected 90 kills in the five set match. They also had 10 total team blocks and played tough defense throughout.

All of the proceeds from the evening went to former Baker University volleyball player Katie Jaschke. The 2008 graduate was at the event and was diagnosed with breast cancer in July and will begin chemotherapy on Wednesday, Oct. 16.

Baker has three more HAAC matches left on its schedule with senior night coming up next Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. against Evangel University. They will then take on Benedictine on the road on Oct. 29 and Central Methodist on the road on Nov. 5.
