Two 'Cats Named NAIA Scholar-Athletes

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Two members of the Baker University volleyball team were honored with the 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete award for their tremendous work in the classroom, as seniors Jasmyn Turner and Crystal Simon ended their Wildcat careers with the award.

391 volleyball student-athletes from around the country were named 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status.

Simon led the team with 287 kills and also recorded 16 assists, nine service aces and 107 digs., while Turner finished third on the team with 263 kills and totaled 18 assists, 82 digs and 11 solo blocks.

Baker finished the season tied for second place with Evangel in the HAAC regular season with a 23-9 overall record, and 7-2 in the HAAC.

The Wildcats rolled past Peru State and Evangel in the HAAC Tournament to advance all the way to the HAAC Tournament championship. The team fell short of a championship crown after losing 3-1 to No. 1 seeded MidAmerica Nazarene.
