Track and Field

LAMONI, Iowa- The Baker track and field teams were impressive at the HAAC Indoor Championships this past weekend.

Behind numerous first-place finishes, the men’s and women’s teams both placed third in the standings. The squads combined for 64 all-conference or all-conference honorable mentions honors at the meet.

Katie Thurbon led the women’s team with a first-place finish in the pole vault (3.43 meters). Stephanie Nelson and Carrie Lister scored big points in the shot put, finishing first and second respectfully with throws of 13.04 meters and 12.77 meters.

On the men’s side, Aaron Hannon opened the meet with a first-place finish in the heptathlon. Jason Robbs took the gold in the weight throw with a mark of 18.08 meters. Jeremy Gathright again dominated the triple jump with a winning mark of 14.84 meters.

“It was great to see Aaron Hannon back competing this weekend,” said head coach Zach Kindler. “He has been struggling with a hamstring injury but as you look through the results you would have never known it. He is just one of those special athletes that you only run across every so often and he just never seems to stop amazing me. I think he’s going to make a run at the NAIA Indoor National Title.”

Next for the Wildcats will be the NAIA Indoor Championships on March 3-5 in Geneva, Ohio.
