Baker track takes first place in five events at Baker Relays
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The cool weather didn’t stop the Baker University track and field team from opening the outdoor season with a bang on Friday afternoon.
Aubree Gustin, Corinna Papps, JaBryanna Wellington, Mary Loveland and the women’s 4x800 meter relay team all came away with first-place finishes at the 2011 Baker Relays.
The Baker women dominated the javelin as three athletes took top five finishes. Aubree Gustin took first-place for the fourth-consecutive season with a throw of 43.31 meters. Stephanie Nelson took second place and Katelyn Wolken rounded out the squad with a third-place finish.
Corinna Papps took home first-place in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase by nearly a full minute. Papps finished with a time of 13:25.79. JaBryanna Wellington won the 400-meter dash, as she was the only runner to break a time of under a minute. Mary Loveland won the 5000-meter run by three seconds recording a time of 19:28.47
Jeremy Gathright led the way for the Baker men taking home a second place finish in the long jump with a mark of 7.13 meters and the triple jump with a mark of 14.33 meters.
The Wildcats return to action on April 2nd at the Friends University Invitational in Wichita, Kan.
