Track and field teams grab three weekly HAAC honors
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Baker men’s and women’s track and field teams are coming off a dominating first place finish at the Wildcat Open this past weekend in Baldwin City, Kansas.
The Baker men finished with a total of 164 points and the Baker women finished with 176.5. Ottawa University finished second on the men’s side at 89 points while Bethany took second on the women’s with 105.5 points.
Jason Robbs (Topeka, Kan.) highlighted the field events for the men, taking first place in both the discus and hammer. Robbs set an “A” standard in both events with a toss of 48.11 meters in discus and 60.31 meter mark in the hammer. He was also named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week.
Stephanie Nelson (Kansas City, Mo.) and Devin Freeman (Overland Park, Kan.) highlighted the Baker women as they were respectfully named Heart of America Athletic Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Week. Nelson took first place in the javelin (44.26 meters) and shot put (12.75 meters) before rounding the day out with a second place finish in the discus (39.30 meters). Freeman took first place in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:09.44.

Both teams will return to action this weekend at the HAAC Outdoor Championships set to be held on the campus of Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri.
