Tyler Sloan also broke a school record in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.70, good enough for a “B” qualifying standard for indoor nationals. Jenna Stanbrough had a solid meet taking third in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:43.06. Jaquela Stewart and Paige Rockers rounded out the women’s side with fifth and eighth place finishes in the triple jump. With her performance she was named the HAAC Track Athlete of the Week. “The Nebraska meet was the first meet where we took all of our athletes,” said head track and field coach Zach Kindler. “It was great to see three school records go down at one meet. Tyler also broke his own previous record in the 3k. The rest of our team is really starting to come together and we should have some exciting weeks coming up in preparation for the HAAC indoor championships.”
On the men’s side, the Baker distance squad continued to creep closer to qualifying for nationals. Taylor Nall and Aaron Caldwell finished in eight and ninth place in the 3000 meter run with respective times of 8:48.37 and 8:50.15, just seconds behind the national qualifying “B” standard.
“We’re working really hard to qualify for nationals, but we’ve had a couple setbacks in these races,” senior Aaron Caldwell said. “We need to work around our setbacks and get ready for conference. Our goal is to win the Triple Crown with our outdoor track and field title last spring and cross country HAAC title this past fall. It would be the first time its ever been accomplished in school history.”
Baker returns to action on Jan. 27 in Lawrence, Kan., for the Jayhawk Classic.
