Thurbon named NAIA Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After garnering HAAC Field of the Week honors on Monday, sophomore Katie Thurbon was selected as the NAIA Women’s Field Athlete of the week the national office announced Wednesday.
Thurbon, a Topeka, Kan., native broke a personal best and school record at the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational held on Jan. 20. Her mark of 12’ 1 ½ put her in second place at the event and moved her into a tie for the top vault in the NAIA this season.
“Being tied for first in the nation is quite the feat,” said head coach Zach Kindler. “I think our kids are really putting in the effort at practice and we look forward to some of the events we have ahead of us leading into the outdoor season.”
Baker returns to action this weekend when they travel to Lawrence, Kan., for the Jayhawk Classic on Jan. 27.
