Thurbon and Gathright take home weekly HAAC honors after Wildcat Open
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Junior Jeremy Gathright and sophomore Katie Thurbon were respectively named HAAC Track and Field Athlete’s of the week the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
Gathright claimed a pair of top two finishes this past weekend at the Wildcat Open to help in preparation for this week’s Heart of America Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship set to be held at Graceland University.
Gathright set a personal best in the 400 meter with a time of 47.92, besting a school record set in 1925 to take runner-up in the event. He also took first place in the 200 meter with a time of 22.25.
On the women’s side, Thurbon set a personal best and school record in the pole vault clearing 3.76 meters (12’4”) in the pole vault. Thurbon now ranks first on the 2012 NAIA Performance List and is one of only four competitors to clear at least 12’0” this season.
