Indoor Track Wins HAAC Championship

LAMONI, Iowa. – The Baker University men's and women's indoor track and field teams both took home first-place in the 2013 Heart of America Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Graceland University.

Head coach Zach Kindler also earned the 2013 Men's and Women's HAAC Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year honors.

In the women's meet, Baker took first with 337 total team points, 204 points ahead of second-place Central Methodist. Benedictine finished third with 124 points, host school Graceland took fourth with 70, Evangel took fifth with 55 points, Missouri Valley took sixth and Culver-Stockton finished seventh.

In the men's championship, Baker took first with 266 points, 104.5 points ahead of second-place Central Methodist.

Missouri Valley took third with 135 points, Benedictine was fourth with 115 team points, Graceland took fifth with 46 points, Evangel finished sixth with 43 and Culver-Stockton took home seventh with 36.5.

Jeremy Gathright took home first-place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.48 and the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.96, the Wildcat men's 4x800 meter relay team also took first with a time of 8:01.05, that team consisted of Eric Larson, Vincent Tadokoro, Taylor Nall and Kellen Kristofferson. Gathright also won the long jump with a mark of 6.97 meters.

The Bryan brothers also performed well for Baker on Saturday, as Justin won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:27.75 and Jeremy won the one-mile run with a time of 4:26.83.

Jeremy also won the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:35.68. Baker picked up more first-place finishes, as Kellen Kristofferson won the 600-yard run, Aaron Caldwell won the 3,000-meter race and the men's distance medley team of Tadokoro, Larson, Jeremy Bryan and Andrew Heim took first with a time of 10:43.84.

Baker's 4x400 relay team also took first-place, so did Clayton Hill in the shot put, with a throw of 14.69 meters.

The women's team had a number of first-place finishers including Tyler Sloan, who was the women's MVP award winner.

Sloan won the 55-meter dash, the 200-meter dash and the 55-meter hurdles. Megan Rosa won the 5,000-meter race in a time of 18:31.87 and freshman Khadijah Lane won the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:01.04.

The Baker 4x800 relay team that consisted of Lauren Jaqua, Jaime Patnode, Ashley McBride and Jenna Stanbrough took home first-place in a time of 9:55.38 and Ariella Harrison finished first in the 600-yard run.

Jaqua also won the one-mile run in a time of 5:27.13 and the 3,000-meter run and Stanbrough won the 1,000-meter run in a time of 3:08.66.

Valerie Schirmer won the weight throw with a throw of 14.41 meters and Katie Thurbon took home the crown of top Pole Vaulter with a vault of 3.78 meters.
