Wildcats set to host Baker Relays

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - The Wildcats track and field team will return to competition Saturday at the Baker Relays Invitational at Liston Stadium. Running and field events begin at 11 a.m., except for javelin and pole vault, which begin at noon.

William Jewell, Iowa Western, Benedictine, Central Methodist University, Ottawa University, Missouri Valley College, Highland CC, Park University, Sterling College, Wentworth Military Academy, and Bethel College will all be represented in the meet.

The Baker Relays will be the first outdoor competition for the Wildcats in the 2010 season. Next week, Baker heads to Emporia, Kan., for the ESU/State Farm Relays.

Baker men take fourth, women fifth at HAAC Indoor Championships

LAMONI, Iowa - The Baker University track and field squads competed at the 2010 HAAC Corinna PappsIndoor Track and Field Championships held at Graceland University this past weekend. The women's team placed fifth overall with 87 points while the men ranked fourth, totaling 74 points over the two-day event.

The Lindenwood women's and men's squads swept the championship, with each team capturing the 2010 HAAC Indoor crown.

Women take third place at NWU TriangularKayla Irwin

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Baker women's indoor track and field team took third place this past weekend at the Nebraska Wesleyan Triangular with a team score of 75 points.

Senior Kayla Irwin (pictured) led the Baker women with a second-place finish in the women's pole vault at 3.15 meters.  Freshman Helena Davis also finished near the top in the women's triple jump with a mark of 10.20 meters to place third.

The Wildcats will be back in action Friday, Feb. 12, when they travel to Pittsburg State.

Younger athletes get their first taste of competitionCorinna Papps

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Baker indoor track and field team traveled to Lincoln, Neb., this past weekend to participate in the NWU Invitational.

A number of competitors got the season off to a great start. Freshman Corinna Papps (pictured) posted a 12th-place finish in the 1000-meter with a time of 3:21.54, and freshman Lindsey Brown  took 14th-place in the 3000-meter with a time of 11:35.70.

Baker caps finals week at KSU All-ComersKayla Irwin

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Baker University men's and women's track and field teams ended a week of final exams by participating in the KSU All-Comers indoor meet, Saturday, Dec. 12, in Manhattan, Kan.

Kayla Irwin (pictured) posted a third-place finish in the women's pole vault, with an effort of 10-feet, 2-inches to lead the Wildcats on Saturday.

Carrie Lister finished in 10th place with a 37.1-effort in the shot put.
