Monday’s round was delayed an hour by a thunderstorm which dumped nearly an inch of rain on an already wet and soggy golf course. The Baker women played Monday like it was their first round of the spring as they lost 22 strokes to the Avila team. Impressive was Baker’s comeback on Tuesday in very windy conditions with some gusts in the 35-45 mph range as they beat Avila in the second round by 5 strokes. Consequently the Baker women finished the tournament in second place to Avila University.
Stacy Yowell led the team with back-to-back 88s and earned 4th place on the All-Tournament team. Junior Krista Yaktine struggled on Monday with a round of 95 but came back Tuesday with a solid 88. Senior Amelia Harshfield brought steady play in the 90s both days. Freshman Haley Knowland struggled Monday but played 8 strokes better on Tuesday when conditions were difficult with the wind.
The Baker women play again this coming Monday-Tuesday at the Park University spring tournament at The National Golf Course in Kansas City-Deuce Golf Course.
