Featuring three freshmen, two sophomores, and two seniors, the golf course provided players with significant elevation changes, small and slow greens, to go along with hot and humid conditions.
Freshman Lindsey Mateer from Springhill, Kan., led the Wildcats both days with scores of 84 and 79 to finish 9th and earn all-tournament honors. Sophomore Morgan Miller of Topeka added a first round score of 88.
Emma Tinsley put up a pair of 93s for first and second round scoring. Freshman Jade Brake from Meriden, Kan., played as an individual medalist and posted a steady score of 90 in her first collegiate round.
Freshman Rebecca Holder from was disqualified during first round play when she accidently played a teammate's ball by mistake.
Not knowing her error before teeing off for play of the next hole, Rebecca could no longer correct her error and was hit with the first round disqualification. But Holder came back strong in second round Friday play to post a score of 88 as the young Wildcats learned a valuable lesson about clearly marking the golf ball for identification purposes.
The Wildcats are back in action September 16-17 in Quincy, Ill., at the Culver-Stockton College Fall Invitational. Spring Lake Golf Course will host the tournament and be the site of the 2013 HAAC Conference Championship.
