BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University women's golf team sprinted out to a fast start to open up the Spring season with a first-place finish at the Missouri Valley College Spring Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at the Indian Foothills Golf Club.

Lindsey Mateer highlighted the tournament with a first-place finish of her own, after a first round, 85, second round 83 and final score of 168, 12 stokes ahead of second-place finisher and teammate Rachel Strecker, who shot a 180 and tied for second.

Freshman Rebecca Holder overcame first-round jitters to put up a second round 89 while fellow freshman Jade Brake improved 8 shots Tuesday to post a 95 as the BU team improved their second round team score by 16 strokes.

Emma Tinsley finished with a two-round score of 221 and Bristol Brandt had back-to-back scores of 100 for a 221.

Coach Karen Exon was pleased to get started and see the team in tournament action for the first time in 2013. The Baker Women and Men are back in action next Monday-Tuesday at the Central Methodist College Spring Invitational in Boonville, Mo.
