BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Back-to-back appearances in the NAIA quarterfinals, including a semifinal appearance in 2010, has the 2012 version of the Baker University women’s soccer team upbeat about the prospects of the upcoming season as they prepare to host No. 9 ranked Westmont College (Calif.) this Tuesday, Aug. 21 at 1 p.m. at Liston Stadium to open the season.

The No. 6 ranked Wildcats finished 15-3-2 overall and 5-1-1 in the HAAC before winning the conference tournament and reaching the national quarterfinals last fall when they were ranked No. 6 at the end of the season.

“We can’t go into this season trying to relive the past,” said head coach Nate Houser. “Hopefully we’ll continue to move forward. That is our goal. We have an advantage in the fact our players have been there. Last years experience won us some games. There’s something to be said about having been there.”

Junior Jordan Dolbin, a third-team NAIA All-American, is back after scoring eight goals and providing six assists. Other top returners are sophomores Alexa Fryer (six goals, four assists), Ashley Mauck (four goals), goalie Rachel Theobald and Shelby Schiraldi.

Top newcomers include Finola Corley, a 5-11 midfielder out of England; Shalynn Eldredge-McMillan, a freshman midfielder and Jena Carducci, who hails from Edmonton, Canada.

Westmont enters the match after a 2011 season in which they went 13-6-1 and lost to conference rival Point Loma Nazarene on penalty kicks in the round of 32 at the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship tournament.
