Both teams opened up the season on Tuesday and each stand at 0-0-1. Westmont scored first on a goal from senior midfielder Aolani Rueff in the 29th minute.
But the Wildcats stormed back with a nifty goal by sophomore midfielder Alexa Fryer, as senior Jordan Dolbin picked up the assist on Baker’s first goal.
The match entered halftime knotted up at 1-1 and the next goal wasn’t scored until the 75th minute when Baker’s Ashley Sampson slammed home a goal with an assist by freshman Liz Todd.
The Wildcats didn’t have much time to celebrate the go-ahead goal, as the Warriors tied it up again in the 79th minute, as sophomore Kaci Mexico drilled one past keeper Rachel Theobald and Ashley Correa recorded the assist.
The game slowed down a bit in the two overtime periods, as Baker took no shots in either overtime and Westmont managed just one in the first overtime and four in the second.
The Warriors outshot Baker, 19-6, and had nine shots on goal to four by the Wildcats. Six different Wildcats took a shot on the day.
Baker will next hit the pitch on Friday, Aug. 24 as they take on No. 24 University of Science and Arts (Okla.) on the road and then follow that up with a match against No. 11 Oklahoma City on Saturday. Aug. 25 at 5 p.m.
