BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Several members of the Baker University men’s and women’s tennis teams earned spots on the latest 2015-16 Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings.

Spartak Rahachou is ranked No. 5 in the NAIA and No. 1 in the region in the singles poll, while teammate Blake Barnard is ranked No. 47 and No. 10 regionally.

As a doubles team, Rahachou and Barnard are ranked No. 14 in the NAIA and No. 3 in its region.

On the women’s side, Brooke Barnard is ranked No. 17 in her region individually and her and Megan Henry are the No. 18 ranked women’s doubles team and No. 5 regionally.

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Baker University men’s and women’s tennis teams took on the 2015 Unaffiliated Group Regional Tournament at Kossover Tennis Center in Topeka, Kan., over the weekend pinning the best tennis teams in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, American Midwest Conference and Midwest Collegiate Conference.

The women’s tennis team earned the No. 4 seed and defeated No. 5 Lindenwood-Belleville in the first round, 5-1. The Wildcats then faced No. 1 Evangel in the semifinals, losing to the Crusaders, 5-0.

The Baker men’s tennis team entered the tournament as the No. 5 seed and also took on No. 4 Lindenwood-Belleville. Baker narrowly defeated LBU, 5-4, and then faced No. 1 Graceland, falling to the Yellowjackets, 5-0.

The 2015 All-Conference teams were also announced at the event and two Wildcats earned honors, as Blake Barnard was named to the First Team All-Conference and Jaimie Myers was named to the Second Team All-Conference.

"I was happy with how our women’s team played on Saturday against Evangel and Stephens,” said head tennis coach Joe Ahmadian. “We competed well against conference opponent Evangel and then took care of business against Stephens with nine athletes contributing to the win. Freshman Holly Chestnut is really starting to find her stride this year. She is one of the best players on our team and her results are starting to show that. We are going to work hard this week in preparation for No. 12 Graceland on Saturday."

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University women’s tennis team competed in three matches last week and came out with a 1-2 record.

The Wildcats went up against NCAA Division II William Jewell on Saturday, Feb. 14 in Lincoln, Neb., and fell to the Cardinals, 8-1, with Brooke Barnard picking up the lone win for Baker.

The Wildcats next competed against Nebraska Wesleyan again in Lincoln, Neb., and fell to the Prairie Wolves, 6-3.

In their final contest of the weekend on Feb. 15, Baker took on Morningside College in Topeka, Kan., and won, 5-4.

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Baker University head women's tennis coach Joe Ahmadian announced the signing of Great Bend HS (Great Bend, Kan.) native Morgan Francis to a national letter of intent this week.

Francis will join the Wildcats in the Fall and was a four-time All-Conference performer for the Panthers in her high school career and was named the Conference Player of the Year twice.

"We are very excited to have Morgan join our program at Baker next year," said Ahmadian. "She will not only be a valuable member of the team but a valuable member of the campus as a whole. I have no doubt that Morgan will thrive on and off the court throughout her career at Baker."

Francis also placed fourth at the state tournament in doubles in 2013 and earned the second best singles winning-percentage in school history at .938. She also tallied the best double winning-percentage in Great Bend HS history at .974.

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University men's and women's tennis teams ended the Fall season with road matches, as the men's team traveled to Wichita, Kan., to face NCAA Division I Wichita State and the women's squad faced NCAA Division II Missouri Western State in St. Joseph, Mo.

The men's squad fell 7-0 to the Shockers, while the women lost 8-1 to the Griffons.
