Baker cross country opens 2011 season on Saturday
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker men’s and women’s cross country squads will open up their seasons over the Labor Day weekend. The Wildcats will be hosting their annual Maple Leaf Invitational race on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Baldwin City Golf Course.
After winning the 2010 HAAC Championship, the Baker women’s team has high hopes entering the season. With nearly everyone returning, coach Zach Kindler believes the ‘Cats should have all the pieces to make a splash on the national level.
“We’ll see some good competition this weekend,” Kindler said. “It’s our annual tradition to open up on our home course with a 4k for the ladies and 5k for the guys. Park University, Johnson County and Graceland are some good local teams we’ll face this weekend.”
The Baker men’s squad will have its eyes set on the 2011 HAAC Championship as well. The ‘Cats return their top five runners after finishing second in 2010 behind Graceland University.
“We’ll get to see where we’re at in comparison to Graceland,” Kindler added. “The guys are ranked 37th nationally and I think the guys know what it takes to move up.”
