Wildcat runners open with wins at Maple Leaf Invitational

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker men’s and women’s cross country teams got their seasons started in style on Saturday afternoon, winning the Maple Leaf Invitational.

Sophomore Lauran Jaqua (Lansing, Kan.) took first place on the ladies side with a time of 15:43 in the 4k. Ashley McBride (Olathe, Kan.) took third and Kerry Kurta (Overland Park, Kan.) took fourth to round out the top five with respective times of 16:01 and 16:12. Lindsey McDonald of Park University took second with a time of 15:55.

On the men’s side junior Aaron Caldwell (Overland Park, Kan.) led the way taking seventh place overall in the men’s 5k with a time of 16:32. Junior Eric Larson (Overland Park, Kan.) rounded out the top ten with a ninth place finish and a time of 16:46. Taylor Nall (Shawnee, Kan.) and Chris Scheideman (Wamego, Kan.) finished 13^th and 14^th with times of 16:56 and 16:58.

“We did exactly what we wanted out there today,” said Baker head coach Zach Kindler. “We’re definitely going to celebrate this one and get back to work tomorrow.”

The Wildcats return to action on Sept. 17^th at the Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo.
