Wildcats open 2010-11 campaign against Calumet College

Coach May and Team

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker wrestling team is set for a busy weekend ahead as it takes on Calumet College in a dual at 7 p.m. on Saturday and hosts the Dan Harris Open at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Both events will take place in the George F. Collins Center.

Saturday’s event marks the first regular-season meet of the year for both the Wildcats and Crimson Wave. In 2009, Baker went 4-0 in duals and finished in fifth place at Central Regionals.

The team also sent 10 qualifiers, all of who are returning for the 2010-2011 season, to NAIA Nationals where the Wildcats took 28th place. Included in those returning qualifiers is Joe Pace who beat the 2009 NAIA National runner-up at the national event. Also included is Levi Calhoun who beat the fifth-ranked NAIA heavy weight wrestler at nationals.

In addition to Baker University and Calumet College, fifteen other schools will participate in the 2nd Annual Dan Harris Open.  The additional schools include: University of Texas at Arlington wrestling club, Northwestern Tech Community College, Bacone College, Kansas State wrestling club, Colby Community College, York College, Newman College, Fort Hays University, Quachita Baptist University, Hastings College, University of Texas wrestling club, SIU Edwardsville University, Northwest Missouri State wrestling club, Pratt Community College, and Neosho Community College.
