Four Baker champions crowned at Bethany OpenBo Newport

LINDSBORG, Kan. – Four wrestlers were crowned champions and 13 others placed this past weekend at the Bethany College Swede Open.

125-pound Bo Newport (pictured, Fontana, Kan.), 149-pounders Jarell Price (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Nick Haugen (Claremore, Okla.), 165-pound Jakob Price (Caney, Kan.), and heavyweight Dylan Berg (Las Vegas, Nev.) were all crowned champions in their respective weight classes.

“It was a good weekend for Baker Wrestling.” said assistant wrestling coach Levi Calhoun. “Our kids are wrestling well, but we need to stay focused and keep working hard to continue improving.”

Baker’s next showdown is in less than two weeks when they travel to Iowa City, Iowa to face the top-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes. Baker will also have duals with Iowa Central Community College and Cornell College. Match times are set for 3 p.m., 5 p.m., and 7 p.m., respectively on Nov. 25.

“We are honored to be able to step on the mat with such a legendary wrestling program.” Said head wrestling coach Jimmy May. “Some of the top wrestlers and coaches in the history of our sport have come out of Iowa’s program.”

The Hawkeyes are currently ranked No. 1 in the NCAA Division I Coaches’ Poll.
