The tournament combined wrestlers from both Elite and Amateur divisions into one division featuring tough competition from NCAA Division I schools University of Missouri, University of Iowa, Oklahoma University, University of Illinois and Northern Illinois.
Senior Brandon Gebhardt again performed well with his second-place finish in the 285-pound class. He fought hard, but eventually lost to Mizzou's Devon Mellon in the finals, 3-2.
In the 141-pound class, Joel Olivas went 3-2 on the day and finished just one victory away from placing.
Sophomore Nick Haugen competed in the 149-pound class with a 3-1 record and lost in overtime to Mizzou's Trevor Weist, but he previously pinned OU's Tim Hamilton earlier in the day.
Baker's Dylan Coppenbarger took home eighth-place in the 149-pound division and teammate AJ Gassman took seventh in the 133-pound class.
The Wildcats Nathan Sommer also placed eighth on the day in the 165 pound class and senior Parker Owen finished the Open with a 3-2 record in the 174 pound class. Jakob Price went .500 at the Open with a 2-2 mark in the 165-pound class.
"This was the toughest tournament we have been to this year," said assistant coach Levi Calhoun. "Our guys battled hard, but there is still a lot of work to be done."
