Gebhardt began the Desert Duals in Las Vegas, Nev., with a huge, 5-3, victory over No. 1 nationally ranked Eric Thompson of No. 1 Grand View on Sunday in the Heavyweight division championship.
The senior out of Sparks, Nev., avenged his loss to Thompson in last seasons championship match of the 2012 NAIA National Championships. Thompson pinned Gebhardt in that match a year ago to hand him the National Runner-up honor.
Gebhardt then followed that up with two more victories on Sunday with a 5-1 win over Elliot Taylor of Embry-Riddle and a 5-0 win over his opponent Alex Burkle from NCAA Division III Coe College.
The Wildcats went 2-1 as a team, losing to No. 1 Grand View, 25-12, but then responded with a 24-15 win over Embry-Riddle and a 27-15 win over Coe.
Baker now has a couple of weeks off before its next competition at the William Penn Open in Oskaloosa, Iowa on Jan. 5.
