IOWA CITY, Iowa – The No. 17 ranked Baker University wrestling team traveled to the University of Iowa, Iowa City Duals on Friday and posted a 1-2 dual record.

They fell 55-0 to the No. 1 ranked team in the NCAA Division I Iowa, then followed that up with a 30-11 win over Cornell College and a 33-15 loss to Iowa Central.

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University wrestling team fell one spot in this week's NAIA Wrestling Coaches' Top 20 poll to No. 17, announced on Wednesday.

The Wildcats are riding a seven-straight dual win streak after defeating Bacone, NCAA Division II University of Central Missouri, Benedictine (RV), Graceland, No. 4 Missouri Valley, Williams Baptist and Hannbial-LaGrange.

Bryce Shoemaker is still the top rated 133-pound wrestler in the NAIA. Other Wildcats ranked in the Top 10 are, HAAC Wrestler of the Week Nick Haugen who is the 8th rated 157-pound wrestler and Billy Leone is ranked No. 14 out of the 197-pound NAIA wrestlers.

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Baker University senior 157-pound wrestler Nick Haugen posted a 4-0 week on the mat for his No. 16 ranked wrestling team and for his efforts he was named this week's HAAC Wrestler of the Week.

The Wildcats as a team went 4-0, as Baker defeated NCAA Division II University of Central Missouri, 22-16, on Wednesday night and Haugen won by a 3-0 decision over Logan Cairer.

Then at the HAAC Quad inside Baker's Collins Center, Haugen defeated Zack McClure of Benedictine by pin in just 1:55 and then won by forfeit against Graceland.

His biggest victory of the week came when he beat NAIA No. 1 ranked 149-pound wrestler Jake Ekster by a 9-6 decision and the No. 16 ranked Wildcats defeated No. 4 Missouri Valley in the dual, 28-13. Ekster moved up a class to 157 to take on Haugen, but the Claremore, Okla., native came out victorious.

Baker has a busy week ahead, as they travel to the Hannibal-LaGrange Triangular in Hannibal, Mo., on Tuesday afternoon. Then travels to the University of Iowa Quad in Iowa City, Iowa on Friday, Nov. 21.

HOLTON, Kan. – In a dual that took place in front of a raucous crowd at Holton High School in Holton, Kan., the No. 16 ranked Baker University wrestling team defeated national ranked NCAA Division II University of Central Missouri, 22-16, on Wednesday night.

Baker and UCM battled hard throughout the dual and it came down to the final bout between 184 pound wrestler Bryant Guillen of Baker and reigning NCAA All-American Archie Williams.

Guillen fought hard through the first period and then in the second period he pulled an unbelievable move on Williams and captured the win with a pin.

Baker will next compete on Saturday, Nov. 15 at home inside the Collins Center in the HAAC quad, as they take on Benedictine, Graceland and No. 4 ranked Missouri Valley.

Highlighting the Open for Baker was 157-pound wrestler Nick Haugen and 184-pound Bryant Guillen who each captured first place in their respective weight classes.

125-pound Sean Dolan took home second in his bracket, as did Billy Leone in the 197-pound bracet. Tyler Dickman finished third in the 149-pound class.

Baker will next take on the University of Central Missouri in a dual on Wednesday, Nov. 12 at Holton High School in Holton, Kan. Beginning at 7 p.m.

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University wrestling team will begin the 2014-15 season ranked No. 16 in the NAIA Wrestling Coaches' Top 20 poll, announced this week.

Baker will open up the season on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the University of Oklahoma Quad in Norman, Okla.

This Friday, Oct. 24 the Wildcats will compete on its home mat in the Collins Center in the inaugural Black and Orange Dual, as Baker will put one Wildcat up against another Wildcat in a home dual.

The Black and Orange Dual will begin at 7 p.m., but prior to the dual, the wrestling program will honor its 2014 NAIA Scholar-Athlete Dustin Turner, along with 2014 NAIA All-American Nick Haugen, and the programs first-ever NAIA National Champion Bryce Shoemaker.

Bryce Shoemaker (133 pounds) of Baker (Kan.), Joe Cozart (157 pounds) of Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and Stephen Loosbrook (197 pounds) of Benedictine (Kan.) are the only No. 1 individuals not associated with a top-five program. Shoemaker and Cozart both won their first national title last season, while Loosbrook finished runner-up to Jesse Hellinger of Dickinson State (N.D.).

Notes (all information dates back to 2000-01 season): Grand View's (Iowa) No. 1 ranking is its 22nd all-time, which ranks second of all programs since 2000-01 ... The Vikings have held the top spot in 17-straight polls ... Former member Lindenwood (Mo.) boasts the most all-time No. 1 rankings with 39, while Notre Dame is third with 14 ... Nine programs have appeared in the Top 20 for at least 20-consecutive polls, led by No. 6 Campbellsville's (Ky.) and No. 3 Great Falls' (Mont.) current run of 72-straight polls, dating back to 2005-06 ... No. 4 Montana State-Northern is the only other school with at least 50-straight appearances (63) ...
