Dan Harris Wildcat Open highlights weekend activities
Baldwin City — Following the University’s first dual meet in the school's 152-year history on Saturday night and a win over York College, the Baker wrestling program was host to the inaugural Dan Harris Wildcat Open tournament at the Collins Center on Sunday.
The Wildcats had a stellar performance in the tournament, finishing the day with nine top-six placers. Joe Pace, a freshman from Platte City, Mo., placed second at 174 pounds to lead Baker. He dropped a 5-3 decision to Missouri Valley's Alex McKinney, an NAIA national runner-up in 2009.
Named after retired Baker University Athletic Director Dan Harris (pictured), the Wildcat Open was host to 14 colleges and universities from around the region, including Missouri Valley, Hastings (Neb.) College, York (Neb.) College, Pratt (Kan.) Community College, Colby (Kan.) Community College, Fort Hays (Kan.) State University, University of Central Missouri, University of Texas-Arlington, Northwest Missouri State University, Dana (Neb.) College and Neosho County (Kan.) Community College. More than 160 wrestlers participated in the tournament. Harris and his family were recognized at the event for bring wrestling to Baker.

Baker takes down York in their first ever competition
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - Baker University was founded 152 years ago. Tonight, the Baker wrestling team made history defeating York College (Neb.), in their first ever dual-meet competition.
Brandon Gebhardt from Las Vegas, Nevada sealed the dual in the 197 lbs match when he took down Shuan Howard to give Baker the 30-15 advantage from which they never looked back.
Freshman Joe Pace from Platte City, Missouri was the first Baker wrestler to win a match on Saturday evening when he pinned Jamel Wheatley to give Baker the 21-15 advantage in the 174 lb match.
Freshman Jacob Nowak responded in the 184 lb match immediately after defeating Bryan Irsik a Junior from Garden City, Kansas by a score of 7-3.

Inaugural Black & Orange Classic

Collins Center | Free Admission
For the first time in 151 years, the Kansas wrestling community will be able to witness the Baker University wrestling program in action. On Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. in the Collins Center, the Baker wrestling program will show case its team in inaugural intrasquad wrestle-offs.

Out of all the nondivision 1 recruiting classes in America, Baker University wrestling was ranked No. 11.
The Wildcats begin their first season of wrestling in 2009 and have already started things out with a bang. Baker will officially open its season on October 28 when it hosts the Inaugural Black and Orange Classic.
