No. 15 Wildcats to open season Nov. 6 with Dan Harris Classic

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University wrestling team, ranked No. 15 in the NAIA, opens its 2011-12 season on Nov. 6 when it hosts the third annual Dan Harris Open at the George F. Collins Convention Center.
On the heels of its second consecutive undefeated season, the Wildcats are looking to build on last year’s success at the NAIA National Championships when heavyweight Levi Calhoun and 145-pound Jarell Price earned the first NAIA All-America honors for the ’Cats, entering their year of wrestling.

Wildcats ranked No. 14 in NAIA Wrestling Coaches’ Preseason Top 20 Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – In only its third year in operation as a program, head wrestling coach Jimmy May has the Wildcats ranked 14th nationally heading into the 2011-12 campaign.
Four BU grapplers are currently ranked nationally in their respective weight classes. 133-pound Josh Haugen (Claremore, Okla.) currently sits at No. 8, 149-pound Jarell Price (Las Vegas, Nev.) No. 6, 157-pound Nathan Sommer (Parker, Kan.) No. 8, and heavyweight Brandon Gebhardt (Sparks, Nev.) No. 12.
“With our success last season, we have high hopes of having a few more guys become NAIA All-Americans this season,” said head wrestling coach Jimmy May. “We have a much tougher schedule, but I think it will payoff at the end of the year.”

Kansas native Bryce Hood signs with Baker wrestling

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Head wrestling coach Jimmy May announced the addition of Louisburg native Bryce Hood to the 2011-12 recruiting class on Monday afternoon.
Hood, a two-time 4A Regional Champion and 2011 Metro Classic All-Star winner finished his high school career with a 113-14 all-time record.

Sean Miller inks with Baker wrestling program

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker University wrestling team announced another addition to its 2011-12 squad on Tuesday afternoon with the signing of Sean Miller.
Miller, a 4A State Champion at Foothill High School in Henderson, Nevada will look to make an immediate impact come the fall of 2011.

Three-time Oklahoma State Champion signs with Baker

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Head wrestling coach Jimmy May continues to dazzle the wrestling world with the 2011 recruiting class he is putting together.
May announced on Tuesday the signing of Nick Haugen (Claremore, Okla.), a three-time 6A Oklahoma State Champion and USA Wrestling High School All-American.
“We are very excited about Nick Haugen coming to Baker University,” said head coach Jimmy May. “He is one of the top prospects our young wrestling program has ever signed. Winning three state championships is an amazing accomplishment and puts him in a very elite group of Oklahoma high school wrestlers.”

Oklahoma State Champion Dylan Coppenbarger signs with Baker

TUTTLE, Okla. – Head Baker wrestling coach Jimmy May continues to load up the 2011-12 recruiting class, as the Wildcats announced the signing of Dylan Coppenbarger on Monday afternoon.
An Oklahoma State Champion and four-time state placer, Coppenbarger brings the leadership of a champion and knowledge of a scholar. Along with numerous wrestling honors, he was also named to the state of Oklahoma Honor Society and National Honor Society.
