The spiritual center of campus, the Clarice L. Osborne Memorial Chapel was moved stone by stone to Baldwin City from Sproxton, England.

Although affiliated with the United Methodist Church, Baker is home to students of many spiritual backgrounds.

A weekly chapel service on Thursdays at 11 a.m. is optional, and no classes or meetings are scheduled during that time.

Ministry Through Service

Baker University is committed to helping students become confident and competent contributors to society. Through their many community service projects, Baker students learn that true leadership is that which provides service to others. On campus, in Baldwin City and across the country, Baker students volunteer their time and resources to help create meaningful social change. Students learn to work with people from diverse backgrounds to identify and accomplish common goals.

Below are a few examples of how Baker students and University Ministry make a difference in their community and beyond.

  • Each September, members of the Baker community in Baldwin City donate their time to Neighbors Helping Neighbors, a community assistance program for local residents who need help with home repair and maintenance.
  • In December, Baker's campus ministry sponsors a Leaf Raking Day, where students pick up the leaves for elderly citizens of Baldwin City.
  • Twice a year, Baker students help serve in food kitchen lunch lines for homeless men, women and children.
  • Each Spring Break, University Minister Ira DeSpain sponsors an alternative spring break trip to Alabama, where students help build houses with Habitat for Humanity.
