"Dr. Pat, as the first woman president, has taken Baker to a higher level. She is a strong professional woman and a great friend," says Honse, a retired nurse. "I love the way she knows all of the students by name. She is not just the president; she is a PART of the University."
Honse and her husband, Bob, a member of Baker's board of trustees and chair of the search committee that brought Dr. Pat to Baker, wanted to be a part of the ongoing renovation at the Student Union. Their generous gift will honor the memory of Emily's mother, Betty Sharpe Simunac, '44, who passed away four years ago, and acknowledge the work of Emily's daughter, Kate Sinnard, the catering manager at Baker.
"The cafeteria and Student Union are the first things prospective students see," Emily says of the importance of the renovation. "I think it will be a big recruiting plus."
