Future of the Baker Wetlands

The Future Can Have Two Versions: Immediate & Long Range

Growth in and around Lawrence is inevitable. Like it or not, it seems to be a part of our society to promote it and encourage it. How can a wildlife refuge on the edge of a bustling city survive as potential development occurs on all sides?

Immediate Future

In the immediate future, Baker University has agreed to begin a restoration project that fulfills a component of the mitigation required by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers because of the construction of the South Lawrence Trafficway destroying 56 acres of wetlands. Wetland Resoration Project
