Baker Participates in Adopt a Family

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – 11 student-athletes from Baker University and head dance coach Lynsey Payne went shopping for a local Baldwin City family this week as part of the Adopt a Family campaign.

With the help of Baker Public Relations Director Steve Rottinghaus and the Baldwin Recreation Center, the athletic department was paired up with a family in the community and received a list of gift requests from the family.

With monetary donations from every Baker athletics program, each family member will receive a new clothing outfit, several personal items and each Baker athletics team donated some gear for the family to wear.

Baker has participated in the Adopt a Family Campaign for several years, but 2012 marked the first year that student-athletes went out and helped with the shopping.

The following Wildcats helped coach Payne shop Luke Harshfield (men's golf), Rebecca Holder (women's golf), Abby Reynolds (cheer), Madison Kristoffersen (dance), Hannah Miller (sports medicine), Parker Owen (wrestling), Taylor Chase (women's basketball), Rece Huddlin (women's basketball), Ryan Lasneske (baseball), Katie Butler (dance) and Renata Dill (softball).

Once the shopping was completed, the Baker dance team joined together and wrapped the presents. The gifts will now be delivered to the Baldwin Recreation Center next week for the family to pick up and enjoy.

"I'm really excited that we were able to include our student-athletes this year in the shopping," said Payne. "They had a great time and did a really nice job picking out the gifts for our family."
