Leadership award given to outstanding business majors
Logan Williams, Tonganoxie, Kansas, and Jennifer Yulich, Kansas City, Kansas, are the 2021 recipients of the Professor Fran Jabara Leadership Award. The award is named for renowned Wichita educator and entrepreneur F.D. (Fran) Jabara, a lifelong proponent of recognizing and promoting excellence in leadership. It recognizes a female and male graduating senior from each participating private university in Kansas and includes a $1,000 award.
LOGAN WILLIAMS
Williams, who majored in business finance and economics and minored in accounting and data analytics, was a member of Zeta Chi fraternity and served as president of Delta Mu Delta, the national honor society for business administration students.
“I developed a lot of leadership skills while at Baker, including how to be a good listener. I developed teamwork and problem-solving skills, and I also learned that it is okay to ask for help. I will be forever thankful for the lessons and skills that I learned and improved on at Baker. The business department prepared me with a great foundation to succeed. I have already found many things that I learned from my classes at Baker to be useful in my job,” said Williams, who is working as a data analyst at Netsmart in Overland Park, Kansas.
JENNIFER YULICH
Yulich, who majored in accounting and business finance, was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority and a member of Concert Choir for four years.
“Before coming to Baker I had very few leadership experiences, so I pretty much started from scratch. I have learned a lot about communication. I learned about the different ways that you can motivate people to be their best. The business department has helped me feel prepared through my classes, where we not only learned but practiced real-life situations such as handling our own portfolio of investments or performing realistic procedures in auditing. This all helped me understand and feel prepared for the real world more than just listening to lectures would have,” said Yulich, who serves as a staff accountant at Tutera Senior Living.
