Music department forming community choir

Baldwin City, Kan. — The Baker University music department is forming a choir combining the talents of students, faculty and staff, Baldwin City residents and friends of the university.

The Baker University Community Choir will sing a variety of music, including traditional classics, spirituals, multicultural folk music and American folk music. Anyone interested in participating in the choir should be able to read music or be able to practice music outside of rehearsals. Youths are welcome but must be old enough to maintain their concentration through a two-hour rehearsal.

No auditions are required. Rehearsals will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays, starting on Jan. 28, in McKibbin Recital Hall in the Owens Musical Arts Building on the Baldwin City campus.

The choir’s first performance will be at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 17, during Ash Wednesday services at First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City. Another performance is planned for 7:30 p.m., Sunday, May 2, at First United Methodist Church.
