BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – In a thriller from start-to-finish against its rival MidAmerica Nazarene, the Baker University women's basketball team fell to the Pioneers, 73-70, on Thursday night inside the Collins Center.

Thursday marked just the second conference loss for Baker this season, falling to 3-2 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference and 10-7 overall.

The 11th ranked Pioneers continue to stay atop the HAAC standings at 5-1 in the conference and 15-2 overall.

Baker rallied from down 16 points at one point, trailing 35-19 with 4:35 left in the half. But Baker hung in there and took a 14-point deficit into the half, 43-29.

Right out of the gate in the second half, Baker lit the Pioneers up and cut the deficit to just seven with a 9-2 run with buckets from Alisha Fanshier, Rashida Simpson and Ciarra Washington.

Shea Shoemaker nailed a deep three-pointer with 11:43 left in the game to cut the MNU lead to three, 52-49.

The contest then went back-and-forth with MNU still keeping its lead throughout. Fanshier knocked in a bucket with 1:13 left to keep the MNU lead at three, 73-70, and neither team scored the rest of the way.

Fanshier led all Wildcats with 20 and added five assists, while Shoemaker led the squad in rebounds with seven.

Kelsey Balcom had a game high 23 points and 11 boards and MNU knocked in seven three-point baskets. The Wildcats managed to knock down nine from behind the arc, with two from Kyrstie Ehm.

The Wildcats shot 46.9-percent from the field in the second half, shooting 15-of-32 and only turned the ball over three times in the entire half.

The Wildcats are back in action on Saturday, January 12 at Graceland, as they take on the Yellowjackets at 2 p.m. in Lamoni, Iowa.
