Bethel Takes Down Baker, 8-1, 7-2

NEWTON, Kan. – The Baker University men's and women's tennis teams took on Bethel (Kan.) on Friday afternoon and both fell to the Threshers 8-1 and 7-2 respectively.

In the men's doubles match, Clint Chlumsky and Jesse Voth-Gaeddert defeated Baker's Michael Draper and Gavin Webster 8-4, Logan Palenske and Chris Soosalu then defeated BU's Gabe Greenbaum and Theo Nichols 8-4. In the final doubles match, Brooks Taylor and Wes Goodrich took down Ryan Gleue and Devin Glasgow 9-8 (5).

In the men's singles matches Logan Palenske defeated Draper 6-1, 6-2. Chlumsky then defeated Webster 6-0, 6-3. Jesse Voth-Gaeddert rolled past Greenbaum 6-1, 6-1
and Chris Soosalu defeated Glasgow 6-1, 6-7(4), 10-7.

The lone win of the day for the Baker men came when Gleue won 6-2, 6-1 against Kris Dubach. And in the final singles match, Jenson Kingsley defeated Nichols 6-3, 6-4.

On the women's side, Bree Honer and Steph Shogren of Bethel defeated Megan Henry and Jaimie Myers 8-5 and the duo of Alyssa Scheuerman and R. Shogren took down BU's Caroline Lockwood and Bre Cunningham, 8-6.

The Wildcats Caitlin Metseff and Lulu Ruding picked up a doubles win over Allie Hipp and Madelyn Weaver, 8-6.

In the singles matches, Bree Honer defeated Henry, 6-2, 6-2 and Shogren defeated Metseff, 6-2, 6-5.

Allie Hipp then took down Myers, 6-2, 6-1 and Madelyn Weaver defated Lockwood, 6-0, 6-3.

The Wildcats only singles victory came when Ruding narrowly won, 6-4 (5) over Ashley Suhr. Cunningham then lost to Schuerman, 6-5 (4) to end the match.

Baker will return home to take on Ottawa University this Tuesday, Mar. 11 at 2 p.m.
