Student Veterans Organization (SVO)

Baker’s Student Veterans Organization is open to those who have served in the United States military, as well as spouses and dependents of military members. SVO helps students navigate the transition from military service to college life while building connections with fellow students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

What SVO Provides

Connection, support, and advocacy throughout the student journey.

Through SVO, students can:

  • Build community with other military-connected students
  • Receive support during the transition to college
  • Connect with staff, faculty, and alumni
  • Balance military obligations with academic goals
  • Share experiences and learn from others with similar backgrounds

Supporting student veterans through community, transition, and academic success.

The mission of the Student Veterans Organization at Baker University is to:

  • Build and maintain a community of students, staff, faculty, and alumni
  • Address the challenges associated with transitioning from military service to college life
  • Support students currently serving in the Guard or Reserves as they pursue a college degree

SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society

Academic recognition for student veterans and military-connected scholars.

SALUTE is the first national honor society for student military and veterans, recognizing academic achievement and encouraging continued excellence.

SALUTE:

  • Recognizes academic success among student veterans
  • Includes four levels of achievement based on GPA
  • Encourages students to continue improving academically
  • Provides access to scholarships and funding opportunities based on tier eligibility

SALUTE Membership Requirements

Eligibility criteria for students seeking national honor society membership.

Students applying for SALUTE membership must:

  • Be currently enrolled as a student
  • Qualify as a military/veteran student under local institutional definitions
  • Submit a DD-214 Member 4 copy showing character of service and honorable discharge
    • Students currently serving on active duty or in the Guard or Reserves must submit current orders instead
  • Have a minimum 3.00 GPA
    • GPAs may not be rounded
  • Have served or currently be serving in the military, National Guard, or Reserves
    • Former service members must have been honorably discharged
  • Maintain high ethical standards

SALUTE Achievement Tiers

Membership levels are based on cumulative GPA.

  • Alpha Tier: 3.75–4.00
  • Bravo Tier: 3.50–3.74
  • Charlie Tier: 3.25–3.49
  • Delta Tier: 3.00–3.24

Membership Fee

A one-time fee supports lifetime membership and national scholarships.

A one-time, nonrefundable $35 lifetime membership fee is due at the time of the initial SALUTE application.

Checks should be made payable to SALUTE National Honor Society. Most membership fees support scholarships for student veterans attending participating institutions nationwide.
