Old Castle was once known as the College Building, because at that time it was the first and only college building in the state.
First Home of Baker University
As the first home of Baker University, Old Castle was once known as the College Building, because at that time it was the first and only college building in the state.
Now as a museum, Old Castle houses artifacts from early Kansas, Methodist, and Baker history.
Blood’s Grocery was located in Palmyra, a stop on the Santa Fe Trail, between 1857 and 1862. It also served as the town’s post office. It was moved to its present location and opened in 1976.

Our Mission
The Old Castle Museum seeks to preserve, interpret, and share the related histories of Baker University and Baldwin City with the surrounding community and visitors.
Old Castle Hours
Open by appointment.
The archives and the museum will be closed the following days: Good Friday through Easter, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day weekend, Father’s Day, Independence Day and the weekend closest to the holiday, Labor Day weekend, the Wednesday before through the Sunday following Thanksgiving, and December 23 through January 2.
Donating to the Museum
The Old Castle Museum has limited storage space and cannot accept all donations. Please contact archives@bakerU.edu or 785.594.8380 to ask about the donation process.
