Alumni social raises more than $5,000

Recent graduates at the Alumni Summer Social

Many proud Baker alumni reunited for a summer alumni social at the Boulevard Brewing Co. in Kansas City, Missouri, on June 29 in support of the Baker Fund for Scholarships.

Ticket sales and donations raised $5,200 to be used for student scholarships. Just over 200 guests attended the Alumni Summer Social.

Attendees were treated to an appearance by Baker senior Logan Brettell. Brettell highlighted his experience as a student-athlete, balancing academics and athletics as quarterback of the accomplished Baker Wildcats football team, the national runner-up in NAIA football in 2016. Brettell was introduced by Baker University President Lynne Murray.

“I am proud of each and every one of our students, including Logan,” Dr. Murray said. “And I am so glad he was able to share his story with so many of our alumni at the event. I know he is extremely thankful for the scholarships he’s received that have allowed him to attend Baker.”

At the event, Baker University also introduced a new donation method, Text2Give, in which people text “Baker” to 913.562.9030 to gain access to a site where they can make a donation.

“We’re always impressed by the support that Baker alumni show by attending these events,” said Director of Alumni Relations Doug Barth, ’91. “We saw more than 200 BU alumni who graduated anywhere from 1958 to 2017. Boulevard was the perfect location for so many of our guests, and we look forward to the next Alumni Social this fall.”
