Get Off to a Strong Start

During BK 101 classes for first-year students, you will learn about and use resources for choosing a major.

  • Career assessments identify interests, personality type, and characteristics to match students with potential majors, interest areas, and future occupations and industries.
  • What can I do with this major? Research any major that interests you or multiple majors for information on common careers, typical employers that hire in these fields, and strategies to maximize career opportunities.
  • The annual Majors Fair is a one-stop shop for academic information.
  • Talk with faculty members about courses, majors, minors, and unique experiences and opportunities within their department.
  • Meet alumni from a variety of majors to learn about their Baker experience and current career path.

A Broad Academic Experience

Through the Baker Core, our general education program, you’ll get to take all sorts of classes from different academic areas and team taught by some of Baker’s most popular professors. Through this multidisciplinary approach that nudges you beyond your comfort zone, you just might find you have a knack for something you hadn’t thought of studying.

Switching It Up

Carly started as a biology major, and after taking Psychology 101 decided to switch majors. But she didn’t know where to start.

“I went to Dr. Robyn Long from the psychology department, and she told me just how easy it would be to switch. The whole process was so easy. And at the Majors Fair, I was able to talk to the psychology professors, who helped me find classes they thought I’d be interested in. Thanks to the support from Baker, I feel like I’m on the right path.”
