Baker Orange website places first in national competition

Baldwin City, Kan. — The Baker Orange student newspaper website, thebakerorange.com, placed first in the Best of Show competition for small-college websites during the Associated Collegiate Press national convention Oct. 30- Nov. 2 in Philadelphia. The event was co-sponsored by the College Media Association.

Senior editor Taylor Shuck, Lawrence, Kan., attended the convention along with junior Taylor Schley, Topeka, Kan., and sophomores Jessica Lane, Gardner, Kan., and Chad Phillips, Andover, Kan. Faculty members Joe Watson and Dave Bostwick accompanied the students.

In addition to the online honors, the current print edition of the Baker Orange placed second for Best of Show in the category of four-year colleges publishing less than weekly.

In addition to the group honors, five Baker students received recognition from ACP and CMA for their work from the 2013-14 school year. Phillips finished third in sports photography. Recent graduates Sara Bell, Sean Webb and Jordan Ratterman received honorable mention for their online coverage of Baker’s trip to Kentucky for the NAIA women’s basketball tournament. Recent graduate Tera Lyons, who is now a web production assistant for the Atlanta Falcons, received an honorable mention award in sports photography.
