Baker University to Renovate The Lodge into Student Housing

Exterior view of The Lodge

Baker University has signed a contract with the Madl family for the purchase of The Lodge, a motel at 502 Ames St., in Baldwin City, Kansas. This contract is subject to normal closing conditions. This marks a new chapter in Baker’s commitment to the growth and development of new student housing and experiences.

This milestone reflects a relationship between Baker University and the Madl family, honoring the property’s legacy while paving the way for its future integration into the university’s expansion plans. A transition agreement is proposed for collaboration with the Madl family, ensuring a seamless handover of operations by May 25.

To honor the Madl family’s legacy and connection to The Lodge, Baker University will unveil a commemorative plaque as testament to the family’s contributions to Baldwin City and their lasting impact on the community. Baker University will release additional details about the use of the facility after the transaction closes and as renovation plans are finalized.

Baker University is committed to stewarding this property with the same care and respect as the Madl family has, ensuring it remains a significant part of Baldwin City’s landscape for years to come.
