Engaging Families for a Better School Community

Monday, May 11 - Sunday, June 28

What if there was a strategy that could boost students’ level of achievement, ensure a sense of belonging, and create positive school experiences? Engaging with families is a way to accomplish these things and can ensure a better experience for all students. This course delves into the purpose and planning of events such as Back-to-School nights, open houses, and orientations that invite families to support their children, addressing cultural inequities and racism affecting families, and strategies to foster positive community engagement. Participants will learn how to find school volunteers, plan engaging events, and improve communication to create a strong and effective school community. This course will share practical tips on parent involvement, engaging diverse families, and working with parents to enhance student attainment, behavior, and attendance. Whether you are a teaching or non-teaching staff member, this course will equip you with tools to bridge the gap between students’ school and family life, starting from your classroom.
