“Shifting the Balance: The Science of Reading in Action” is a transformative course designed to empower educators with evidence-based strategies for effective early reading instruction. This practical guide integrates the Six Shifts© of the Science of Reading, focusing on key areas such as reading comprehension, phonemic awareness, phonics, high-frequency words, cueing systems, and text selection. Tailored for teachers in grades K-2, this course provides practical instruction to meet the varying needs of students at different reading levels. Participants will explore each shift to deepen their understanding, reflect on current practices, and implement research-based strategies in the classroom. Through collaborative discussions, case studies, and reflective activities, participants will enhance their instructional practices and unlock the potential of their young readers.
