PRE-MEDICINE & HEALTH | Preparation for Life
Students who know they want to enter a science-related graduate program can take advanced course work in biology, biochemistry, human biology, chemistry and exercise science. The preprofessional program in medicine and health is not a major but rather a course of study that prepare students for graduate school. Individualized planning with an advisor tailors a program to fit our students’ interests and needs.
MEDICAL SCHOOL PREPARATION
Baker students are accepted into medical school at a 90% rate—more than double the 44% national average.
DENTAL SCHOOL ACCEPTANCE
Over the past 10 years, 100% of Baker students who applied to dental school have been accepted.
Students preparing for a career in health care participate in shadowing experiences with health-care professionals.
Our lab courses feature student-designed research projects and most students in our science programs partner with a faculty member to pursue original projects.
SCIENCE AT BAKER UNIVERSITY
Baker science graduates go on to become doctors, researchers, educators, and even water slide engineers. How does Baker prepare students for success after graduation? What are some of our recent alumni are doing now? Watch the video to find out!
BRANDON | Biology Major, Class of 2015
Actor. Fraternity president. Student Activities Council officer. National Science Foundation research contributor. That’s Brandon, and even though he’s graduated, he still wants to accomplish more. “On and off the stage, in and outside of the science lab, Baker gave me the opportunity to be extremely involved on campus. But the most important thing it did for me was preparing me for my next step—the University of Kansas Medical School.”
Our pre-medicine and health curriculum prepares students for success in these graduate programs:
- Veterinary medicine
- Physical therapy
- Physician’s assistant programs
of Baker graduates are employed full time or enrolled in graduate school within six months of receiving their diploma.
Open to all students interested in dentistry as a career and who would like to find out more about dental school and preparation.
The Pre-Med Club strives to provide resources and support to pre-med students.
Dr. Erin Morris
Associate Professor of Biology | erin.morris@bakerU.edu
“I always say if I were not a scientist I would be a historian. I love looking through old documents and understanding how past events have shaped the world today. I get to combine these two things when I teach a Genology Interterm. That class covers deep human history through genetics, and recent family history using ancestry databases.”
