Student-run radio, TV stations win state honors
Baldwin City — Baker University’s student-run radio station and television stations, KNBU-FM and KNBU-TV, won four awards from the Kansas Association of Broadcasters in the annual student awards competition, going against colleges and universities of all sizes in the state.
KNBU-TV placed first in best-taped newscast. Second-place honors went to KNBU-FM for its 60-second public service announcement/commercial for suicide prevention and to Baker student Jim Joyner, Olathe, Kan., for sports play-by-play.
Joyner teamed with fellow host Marissa Smith, Springfield, Mo., to receive honorable mention in public affairs program for “The Hub.”
Joe Watson, associate professor of mass media, is the adviser to the radio station and TV station.
Baker’s winning students will be presented awards on April 7 in Topeka.
