Theatre festival awards Baker Students

Baker University theatre students brought home the Stagecraft Spirit Trophy from the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival Region 5 competition Jan. 17-23 at Minnesota Normandale Community College and reached the final four in the Stagecraft Showdown.

Competing against schools of all sizes, Baker’s technical theater team was Ryan Bearrick, Chanute, Kansas, senior; Alyssa Glover, Emporia, Kansas, freshman; Emi Kniffin, Wichita, Kansas, junior; and MacKenzie Sammons, Wellsville, Kansas, senior. The competition included stage weight/furniture and prop placement, border tie and hang, costume quick-change, light hang/focus and knot tying. Baker entered the Showdown Showcase as the defending champions, making the final four two years in a row.

Students were not the only ones to earn an award at the festival. Heiman received the Road Warrior Award, which recognizes festival respondents who exhibit exceptional commitment to KCACTF through their oral response, professionalism, collegiality, flexibility, efficient travel and punctuality and their willingness to go above and beyond the normal expectations of serving as a respondent. He was awarded a Road Warrior vest.

Region 5 covers schools of all sizes from Kansas, northern Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska and Iowa.
