Baker University has added a free online Introduction to Web Development course to its coding bootcamp. Through this course, students can evaluate whether a coding career is right for them and can prepare for the coding bootcamp experience. The self-paced and self-guided course covers Git, HTML, CSS and JavaScript and allows students to explore the field of computer coding without committing to a traditional program.

The 10- to 14-month coding bootcamp, offered in partnership with The Software Guild, trains students in software development through online courses. Students have the choice of two tracks: .NET/C# or Java. The bootcamp provides the in-demand coding skills that technology employers seek in today’s job market.

“To join with the Software Guild and be able to provide students with the training needed to meet the demands of this industry was an obvious choice,” said Dr. Emily Ford, interim dean of Baker’s School of Professional and Graduate Studies. “At SPGS, we look for opportunities to connect industry with the community by creating unique programs that not only benefit employers, but also meet the needs of students.”

The program is taught by Software Guild instructors using Software Guild’s course structure and curriculum. Students work in a collaborative online environment and have daily access to teaching assistants and instructors to ensure guidance and hands-on support throughout the program.

Registration and more information can be found at bakerU.edu/coding-camp. Baker University alumni who enroll in the program will receive a $500 tuition credit and may be eligible for an additional $2,000 scholarship from The Software Guild. Women who are admitted into The Software Guild’s fully online coding bootcamp program will be eligible for the $2,000 Women in Tech Award. Veterans who are admitted into the fully online bootcamp will also be eligible for a $2,000 scholarship. To be eligible, students must be admitted into one of the coding bootcamp programs before December 31, 2017.

Once formally enrolled, students with financial needs have the opportunity to apply for accessible, low-interest loans that will cover the full cost of tuition through Skills Fund. Skills Fund supports alternative education opportunities that have a track record of job placement success.
