Outstanding Student Experiences Lead to Career Success
College is an investment in both personal growth and professional potential, resulting in increased career earnings over a lifetime. At Baker, it’s not unheard of for a reporter for the Baker Orange to ace an exam in the morning, practice layups in the afternoon, and then preside over a student senate meeting in the evening. Baker offers endless ways to get involved and to hone leadership skills.
Small classes offer a dynamic learning environment.
Small classes allow students to fully engage in their education and connect with peers and faculty. This gives faculty the opportunity to foster creative learning experiences while challenging students to analyze issues with depth and clarity.
Internships help guide career choices.
Nothing puts knowledge to the test like real-world experience, so Baker professors and the staff at Career Services work diligently to help students land rewarding internships. In recent years, Baker students have interned at Burns & McDonnell, Kiewit, KC Chiefs, U.S. Dept. of Justice, Cerner, PriceWaterhouseCooper, and NASCAR.

BOOK Program
The Baker Organizational Observation for Knowledge program affects student learning by expanding the basic internship. Students research the history, mission, structure, products and services, finances, and management of the company, and then give presentations and compete for cash prizes.
“As we continue developing the BOOK program, it is becoming an integral part of Baker’s experiential learning,” says Dr. Kevin McCarthy, professor emeritus of business and economics. “An internship alone no longer distinguishes a college graduate from other job candidates. However, the BOOK program does have that potential.”

Student Experience
Spencer Brown felt immediately at home at Baker. And while he didn’t know exactly what he wanted to do after graduation, his opportunities and experiences as a Wildcat helped him get where he is today. He developed strong leadership skills by serving as the president of both his freshman and junior class, and he directed the Emerging Leaders Summit. He was a member of a fraternity, and while studying abroad at Harlaxton College, in Grantham, England, he was honored with the Dean’s Award at the Valedictory Convocation. After graduating in 2018 with a business degree with an emphasis in marketing, he landed a position at Lockton Companies in Kansas City.
